THE PROBLEM WITH SULPHATES
Share
Sulphates, specifically sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) and sodium lauryl sulphate (SLES), are commonly used in many personal care and household products such as shampoos, soaps, toothpaste, and detergents due to their ability to create a foaming lather. While they are generally considered safe for use in small concentrations, some people may experience irritation or other adverse effects, leading to the perception that sulphates are "bad" for you. Here are some reasons why sulphates may be considered problematic for certain individuals:
Skin Irritation: Sulphates can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. This can be especially problematic for individuals with sensitive skin, eczema, or other skin conditions.
Eye Irritation: Sulphates can cause eye irritation, especially if they come into direct contact with the eyes. This is a common concern with products like shampoos that may run down the face during use.
Hair Damage: Sulphates can contribute to hair dryness and damage by stripping away the natural oils that keep hair moisturized. This can lead to frizziness, split ends, and overall hair dullness.
Allergies: Some people may be allergic or sensitive to sulphates, experiencing allergic reactions such as redness, itching, or hives.
Sulphates can be contaminated with 1,4-Dioxine during the manufacturing process, there is no way of proving that sulphates haven't been contaminated with this substance and this substance has been responsible for causing cancer in lab animals.
